October Fest at Glenwood Caverns
Trent | 1 October 2005
Celebrate the arrival of fall at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s third annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 1, with activities scheduled throughout the day. There will be live music, games, refreshments, and entertainment for the whole family.
“The Oktoberfest has become one of our favorite traditions,” said Steve Beckley, who owns Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with his wife Jeanne. “Everyone — our customers and our staff — has a lot of fun. And there’s even more to do this year with the new thrill rides and climbing wall.” In addition to cave tours and thrill rides, visitors can enjoy traditional German music by the Swiss-Austrian Connection, food and beer specials, pie-eating contests, face painting, balloon animals by Skippy the Clown, and a bouncy castle. Refreshments will include bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, apple cider, St. Pauli Girl Lager, and Iron Mountain Ale.
The schedule of activities includes: Bouncy Castle, Doc’s Rock, Discovery Rock 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Cave Tours 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Face painting 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Thrill rides: Canyon Flyer, Swing Shot 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Swiss-Austrian Connection 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Skippy the Clown 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Pie-eating contests 1, 2, and 3 p.m. “It’s a great way to spend the day: enjoying the beautiful fall weather, listening to music, and maybe even trying the chicken dance,” added Beckley. Round-trip passes for the Iron Mountain Tramway are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 and better, and $7 for children ages 3 – 12. Annual pass holders ride the tramway and enjoy cave tours for free for a full year and enjoy discounts at Exclamation Point Restaurant and the Gift Shop, and on ride tokens. Annual passes cost $50 for individuals and $100 for families.
About Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park offers a one-of-a-kind, nature-based adventure for families and outdoor enthusiasts that will create lasting memories. Glenwood Caverns originally opened to the public in 1895 but closed at the onset of World War I. The caves were closed for 82 years until owners Steve and Jeanne Beckley reopened the caverns in 1999. The Beckleys have employed rigorous, contemporary, scientific preservation methods to protect the living and historic sections of the caves. Glenwood Caverns and Historic Fairy Caves was named one of “The 10 Great Places to Go Underground” by USA Today, and the “Best Family Cave Tour” by Denver Westword. In the spring of 2003, the Adventure Park opened, adding the Iron Mountain Tramway, Visitor’s Center, Exclamation Point Restaurant & Bar, and Discovery Rock. Additions in 2005 included the Canyon Flyer, Swing Shot, Alpine Rush, and Doc’s Rock. For more information, visit http://www.glenwoodcaverns.com.
