AVMF: $411,255 IN GRANTS
The Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, the charitable arm of the Aspen Valley Hospital, awarded $411,255 to local health and human service organizations in the Roaring Fork Valley. The foundation also provides scholarships, and provides emergency medical, dental and prescription assistance through its Direct Assistance Program.

RFTA’S HYBIRD BUSES COMING
Four diesel-electric hybrid buses are expected to be rolling into the Roaring Valley as early as next week. The hybrids are expected to be used on routes with frequent stops, as hybrids get highest mileage when stops and starts are frequent, with braking helping to recharge the drive batteries and electrical power can be used frequently.

SOUTHWEST: 13 FLIGHTS A DAY
Southwest Airlines will have 13 flights a day from Denver International Airport starting Jan. 3. There will be four flights a day to Chicago’s Midway Airport, four to Phoenix and five to Las Vegas.

BOEC: KEYSTONE OFFICE
The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center will open an office at Keystone Resort this winter. BOEC has been interested in Keystone because the area’s long, intermediate runs could be an excellent advancement from the easier runs at Breckenridge, where BOEC has operated for 30 years. Last season, BOEC gave 2,300 lessons, serving 800 clients.

HALLOWEEN SPENDING
Halloween is a $3.3 billion holiday, with adults spending as much on themselves as on costumes for kids:
-Halloween spending will be up 5% this year;
-Adults ages 18 to 24 will spend $50.75, up 30% from last year;
-Adults ages 25 to 34 will spend $62.45, up 14%
