PITCO MOVES ON SMUGGLER
The Pitkin County commissioners Wednesday approved the purchase of 170 undeveloped acres on Smuggler Mountain, a popular recreational area, used by hikers, bikers and others. The $15 million purchase was approved by the commissioners, with the condition that the city of Aspen agrees to split the cost.

SKYWEST CUTS GJ FLIGHTS
Skywest Airlines, which operates Delta Connection flights between Grand Junction and Salt Lake City, plans to reduce the number of flights on that route beginning Jan. 4, 2006. Skywest will end all seven daily flights on 30-seat Embraer Brasilia turboprop aircraft and replace them with three daily flights on 50-seat regional jets.

DENVER TOURISM TAX OK’D
Denver voters Tuesday approved a new 14.85% lodging tax, up 1% from the former tax, which will increase the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau budget by $4.2 million to $12 million.

USFS: NEW OFF-ROAD RULES
The U.S. Forest Service will restrict travel of motorized recreational vehicles to designated trails on USFS lands within four years. The new rule directs forest districts to work with local groups to identify and designate approved routes and will map and sign routes in all 155 national forests and 20 national grasslands.
