A Sacred Ground Aid & Preservation Society and Russell Rocke Entertainment Presentation
Hurricane Katrina scattered them across seven states, but some of New Orleans’ liveliest and finest homegrown musicians are coming back together to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Wheeler Opera House. Featuring a rich diversity of the tremendous musical heritage of the Crescent City, the musicians will play two world premiere shows. The evening’s line-up of talent includes Marva Wright, Eddie Bo, Wanda Rouzan, A Taste of New Orleans Rhythm & Blues All Star Band, The Pinstrip Brass Band, James “Satchmo of the Ghetto” Andrews, and Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. They plan to use the Wheeler date to not only launch a US and European tour of the show, but also to tape the concerts for possible future audio or video release.
“The Wheeler wanted to bring in a tremendous event for New Year’s that would be a perfect end to a most imperfect year,” said Wheeler Opera House Executive Director Gram Slaton. “These musicians have been made homeless by Katrina and are picking up the pieces as best they can. What better way to close out 2005 but by celebrating the incredible life force and creativity that have always made New Orleans such a great cultural mecca?”
