American Cancer Society Vertical Challenge
Amy | 4 January 2006
Take the American Cancer Society Vertical Challenge and make every run count this winter. Every time you ski at Sunlight you will raise money to support research, education, advocacy and patient service programs funded by the American Cancer Society. Although the team competition doesn’t start until March, you can compete all season long in the Vertical or Nordic events as an individual.
Skiers and boarders can track their vertical feet all season long with the American Cancer Society vertical feet tracking device. The device, a small plastic tag, attaches to a skiers jacket and tracks vertical feet every time they ski White Pass. Electronic chip readers are mounted at chairlifts and pick up battery-powered radio signals from the tags, adding vertical feet to participant’s totals. In the lodge, another electronic reader scans for tag signals as skiers walk by, then posts the skiers’ names and slope totals on a giant plasma screen.
Registration as an individual costs $35 for adults and $22 for youths. Registration includes a vertical tracking device and a personal web page. Lift tickets must be purchased separately. Support the American Cancer Society! Begin the registration process by clicking here.
