USA Today – Glenwood Springs in Top Ten Great Places for Fall View
AmyT | 15 September 2006
USA Today lists Glenwood Springs as one of the Top Ten great places for viewing the Fall colors. We refer to the tourists as leef-peepers. Most travelers come in from the Denver area to experience the peak colors that occur usually between September 15th and October 10th. The three hour drive from Denver is some of the most amazing fall colors you could ever see in a life time. The article talks about the Red Rooster Inn which is located in Glenwood Springs past CMC’s Spring Valley campus on County Road 115, also know as Red Canyon Road. I’ve never been to the Inn but I did work part time at the campus during my pregancy five or so years ago. If you have never driven up the CMC turnoff, take an hour or so and make the drive. The views and wildlife are spectacular. It is also the location of the Glenwood Springs Colorado Animal Rescue Shelter. A great place to take the kids and adopt a new puppy or kitty.

The drive up over Indepence Pass is amazing at this time of the year, but it might be closed now because of the snow. Well worth the drive, especially if you are heading back to Denver and want an alternative route to 170 – it is a longer drive as it takes you over to Hwy 285 but it is beautiful.
