Italian Underground

The Italian Underground is a favorite of Glenwood Springs locals. It is located downtown in one of the oldest buildings in Glenwood with a truly Italian atmosphere. It is the perfect location for a family feast. The food is excellent and entrees include salad, bread and gellato for dessert. Worth the wait. They do not accept reservations but if you arrive early you can usually be seated quickly.

I love italian underground - my husband and I spend every anniversary here and inevitably take out of town guests down for great meal.
Get there early or be prepared to wait, there’s always a line, but it is really worth it.

The Italian Underground is my favorite restaurant in Glenwood. You get a lot of food for a very affordable price. I recommend the lasagna….you even get a little dessert with your meal!!

If you are looking for authentic Italian food, this is my favorite place! Not only is the food great, but also its unique atmosphere. Located in the quaint downtown of Glenwood, this restaurant makes you feel that you have literally set foot underground with its rugged rock walls. With the candle light and warm garlic bread, you will enjoy this cozy mountain atmosphere and great food! I have pretty much lived here my whole life, and it has always been a town favorite!

My wife and I also love this restaurant and usually take out of town guests. Everyone is always pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. We tried to get in at 5:15 this summer to avoid the wait and there was a line behind us by 5:30! You really need to get in early or go and kill a half hour (or more) playing foosball at the coffee shop next door. They also have free internet at the coffee shop!

We loved the Italian Underground, there was a short wait but well worth it. I will be going back there to eat and to take friends out. Very good food and a affordable price.

The Local’s favorite for the friendly and efficient staff, ambience, reasonable prices and great food. The owner/bartender is a wine lover who will turn you on to something unexpectedly divine if you let him choose for you.

Great ambience. A step back in time. The whole family or a quiet time for the two you, it all fits in. Great Chianti. I like the linguine with clams. Try it, you’ll like it.

We had a terrible experience here on June 26th, 2009. After an hour wait we were seated and ordered our meals. Five people - ordered two combos and three pizzas and one escargot appetizer. Two of the three pizzas came with incorrect ingredients and the appetizer never arrived. Our drinks were empty and we had to flag down the blond waitress several times for refills, which was disappointing as we were right on the main aisle and hard to miss.
When the bill came it included the appetizer we didn’t receive so we brought this to her attention and she wrote a new total without it but did not cross out the old total. When the credit card receipt came to sign it had the incorrect, larger total. I went up to the desk and told her and she denied it. When I showed her the receipt in front of other staff, she relented and voided the incorrect transaction and ran a new one for the correct total. Luckily I kept both receipts because today, 6/28/09, both charges have showed up on my account but the credit has not. I fear I’ll have to go to the bank to dispute the charge.
And after all this trouble, the food was only okay, not great. We will never go here again and if the credit does not show up soon I will ask my bank to prosecute them.
