Crested Butte in the Gunnison Valley is a great place for early season skiing. My family and I traveled last weekend from Glenwood Springs. It took about 3 ½ hours to get there but the roads were clear and we arrived safely. We purchased a decent package online from from GunnisonCrestedButte.com which included lessons for our five year old son, lift tickets to the Crested Butte Mountain Resort Ski Area and hotel accommodations a few miles from the lifts. This is a great time of year to book affordable family ski packages. The weather was beautiful and most of the mountain was open but Colorado definitely needs more snow. We will probably return one more time this year. Keep an eye on Gunnison Colorado Weather and I highly recommend making the trip after the next big snowstorm. There is also the Gunnison Crested Butte airport if you’re interested in flying.
