Colorado Summer Vacation to Crested Butte
AmyT | 2 May 2007
Colorado in the summer is best spent high in the Rocky Mountains, especially once the temperatures start to rise. One of my favorite quick and easy Colorado Summer vacations is a trip to Crested Butte. Crested Butte is only a two and a half hour scenic drive from Glenwood Springs.
There are plenty of your common mountain summer activities such as hiking, biking and fishing but I like to go during the Crested Butte Music Festival. The festival begins July 4th and continues through August 4th. The Crested Butte Music Festival offers a wide variety of music from orchestral to jazz to bluegrass and features local artists whenever possible. Another good reason to visit Crested Butte in the summer is Curecanti National Recreation Area. There are three reservoirs with plenty of fishing, camping and even some dinosaur fossils to look at. If you’re not up for camping there are plenty of hotels, motels and Crested Butte Inns to choose from. The Nordic Inn is located downtown and family owned. The lodge is within walking distance of many activities, restaurants and shopping.
As always, the journey home is sweet. I love Glenwood Springs!
