Blind triathlete, Nancy Stevens will teach an intensive 3-day camp introducing visually impaired women and female sighted guides to triathlon competition at the Hot Springs Pool on April 28-30, 2006. The Tri It Camp will focus on the methods of guiding, preparation, training and competing in triathlons, networking in communities, involving other guides and potential blind triathletes.

Participants should be enthusiastic, visually impaired women and guides who crave hands-on training in methods of guiding for open-water and pool swimming, cycling and running. Each participant must be able to swim freestyle at least two pool lengths. The purpose of swimming at this camp is to demonstrate how effective it is to swim with a guide when there aren’t lane markers to follow.

Special Hotel Rates for Colorado Residents

Residents of Colorado can get special rates when staying at the Sky Hotel in Aspen.  I heard an ad on the radio and because I was unable to find anything on their website as to what the rate was about I contacted the hotel.  And sure enough if you have a Colorado driver’s license you can get a “Colorado Resident” rate.

In the off-season it is a bargain at $125.00 a night and includes; room, valet parking, and continental breakfast.  According to John Curnow, the General Manager the discount is valid all year but the rate fluctuates.  You can hob-nob with the Aspen elite knowing that you got special treatment because you chose to live in Colorado - yeah!

Note that the lounge will be closed from April 17th till April 17 till May 12…Just give reservations a call (970-925-6760) if you are interested and mention you are a Colorado Resident.

Check out the rooms and suites online at The Sky Hotel (lower or turn off your volume as they have music on the site.)

I am thinking that our next anniversary, rather than spend $100 on dinner in Denver we will wing our way over to Aspen. Oh, and they have some pet freindly guest rooms so you can bring your ‘best friend’.

Over the next few weeks, Colorado Division of Wildlife personnel will stock the largest number of kokanee salmon in seven years - nearly 700,000 more than a year ago.

This turn marks a continued recovery from egg-collection problems of recent years and, given proper survival and growth conditions, an ultimate boost in angler success. The fry range in size from 1 to 2 inches. (more…)

Possible Phish Reunion at the Aspen Festival?

Things were already looking up for this year’s Jazz Aspen Snowmass June Festival. Then Trey Anastasio, the emperor of the jam band universe, signed on. Phish heads, start swimming upstream.

Anastasio, the former Phish frontman, joins other luminaries. Also in the hopper: Elvis Costello & the Imposters with Allen Toussaint; Costello’s wife, celestial jazz crooner Diana Krall; funk master Maceo Parker and bluesman Delbert McClinton.

So does an Anastasio appearance in Aspen mean a Phish reunion? Not so phast, says JAS executive producer Jim Horowitz. “Not here. It is not a Phish show,” Horowitz tells the Aspen Times. “I don’t think the venue is so suitable for a Phish show anyway.”
