HANK BOSCO HONORED
Lifelong Glenwood Springs resident Hank Bosco was honored Saturday night as the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association’s citizen of the year at the chamber’s annual ball. Bosco, who grew up at Glenwood’s old Star Hotel and managed the Hotel Denver, has served as president of the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and Pool for 30 years.

COMCAST SERVICE DERAILED
Comcast’s cable Internet service has been out since Sunday from Aspen to Parachute and in the Winter Park area, affecting some 7,500 high-speed Internet users. The outage was caused by the accidental cutting of a fiber optic circuit by railroad crews making repairs from a train derailment near Winter Park. It is the second outage for the company since October due to train derailments.

MORATORIUM IN GLENWOOD?
The Glenwood Springs City Council voted unanimously Thursday to draft an ordinance for City Council consideration in February that would place a moratorium on all new development on the south side of the city for six months to study future sewer, transit and transportation needs.

SILVERTREE SOLD?
One of Snowmass Village’s oldest and largest properties, the 260-room Silvertree Hotel, the 160-room Wildwood Lodge and the Snowmass Conference Center, is under contract for sale to a group of local investors, including Basalt developers Jim Light and Jim Chaffin. The investors have recently purchased the Snowmass Center and much of the Snowmass Mall.

Today is the last day of the 2006 Big Beers Festival in Vail!
This afternoon, don’t miss the Tasting Event, which begins at 2:00 PM at the Manor Vail Conference Center. It’s been dubbed “one of the best collections of beer ever seen in one place.” The format is geared towards educating the tasters about breweries and beer: each guest is limited to one taste of each beer for the first two hours of the event. Come taste 125 different specialty beers from around the world!
Other events today include the Big Beers Homebrew Competition Awards at 2:30 PM, as well as two educational seminars at 3:30 and 4:30 PM. Rob Tod, Founder/ Brewmaster of Allagash Brewing, Portland, Maine, will talk about the Belgium tradition of beer making. Eric Wallace, Co-Founder/ Brewmaster of Left Hand & Tabernash Brewing, Longmont, Colorado, will share stories about brewing beers and the beer business.
Festival admission is $22 in advance and $25 at the door.
Tonight, Executive Chef Richard Wade hosts the Second Annual Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Brewmasters’ Dinner. Chef Mason and the staff of the Lord Gore Restaurant at Manor Vail Resort will provide the evening’s courses, paired up with beer from Brewmasters of Allgash Brewing in Portland, Maine and Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, Colorado. GSHS CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN
December 30 was the final day of business for the Glenwood Springs True Value, and the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 will begin construction on the expanded Glenwood Springs High School Feb. 1. True Value is donating all merchandise that didn’t sell before the store closed to Habitat for Humanity in Grand Junction.
