Storm King Memorial Trail is a moderately hard trail which is steep and/or rocky in many places. It is about a mile long. The trail is in memory of the 14 firefighters who died on Storm King Mountain. There are numerous plaques and monuments which gives the hike additional historic interest. Many firefighters visit this spot - check out the stickers on the sign in box.
The trail was left rugged and steep as it was for the firefighters. An observation point was established one mile up from the trail giving the complete view of the fire area. From this point, a more primitive trail continues up another 3/4 of a mile to the point where the firefighters perished. The path is very similar to the ones the firefighter tood only they carried heave packs and equipment on their backs.

The Jeanne Golay trail, formerly known as Red Mountain Trail, climbs to the top of Red Mountain.
Red Mountain is where the Glenwood Springs cross is located — a shining beacon from Thanksgiving through New Years located high above town. The Jeanne Golay Trail is a hiking and biking trail that is about 3 miles long. Like most hikes in Glenwood Springs (except the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path) the hike is all uphill to the top and all downhill on the return. It is moderately steep.

Hanging Lake is about a two mile round-trip hike. The hike is very vertical and of moderate difficulty. Access to the trailhead is from I-70 eastbound only. Which means that if you are heading westbound on I-70, you must go past the trailhead to the next exit, Grizzly Creek, and turn around and head back east to the Hanging Lake exi
There are NO DOGS and NO FISHING. Get ther early to beat the crowds or go in the off season… this is a popular trail!

The Maroon Bells opened up on May 26th, 2006 and if you have visitors coming in from out of town, or are planning to head over the Maroon Bells this summer to hike or take in a driving tour, be aware that the area has limited access by car from June through September.
From mid June, during the main part of the day, you will need to take a bus tour. Tours leave the Aspen Highlands ski area every 20 minutes from 9:05 am to 2:05 pm and then every hour and half until 4:30pm, last bus leaves at 5:00pm. If you are visiting the area from 7am – 9 am or from 5pm – 7pm then you can access the area with a $10 recreation use fee.
The area has been closed to private vehicles during the peak times of the day since 2000 because of the build up of pollution on the mountain. The aspen and the wildflowers, the reason everyone loves to travel to the area, were choking from all the pollution from the vehicles.
All non-motorized forms of transportation can go through at no charge at anytime. On the bus tours you can bring along Fido, so long he stays on the leash at all times and you keep him on the trails and be aware he can’t go swimming in the lakes.
Check out the Forest Service site for downloadable trail guides before heading out. There is something for everyone and every ability, such as the Maroon Lake Scenic trail an easy 1.5 mile (one way) trail that takes you across creeks, around an active beaver pond and loops back around the lake. You can turn back at any point to head back to the trailhead.

A friend of mine hiked Hanging Lake a few weeks ago. He took some amazing pictures of the clear water and fall colors. The hike is an mile and a half up with mild to steep terrain. Here is the picture.
